Tasting Notes - Supplied by Angus MacRaild (Whisky Consultant & Author)

Colour: pale straw.

Nose: Initially medical, but also chalky, floral, honeyed and quite precisely waxy. Notes of camphor, hessian, mineral oil and various cereals and toasted seeds. A rich, fulsome and typically distillate-forward style. Water makes it drier, leafier and with an earthy, petrichor side which is very pleasing.

Palate: Well-rounded and quite oily in texture upon arrival. Some garden and orchard fruits, citrus jellies and subtler notes of white flowers, flints, chalk, piths and touches of ink and canvass. Robust but also quite elegant and complex. Water brings an even balance of sweet and dry with fruit cordials, menthol and light waxy tones.

Finish: medium in length and satisfyingly waxy, juicy and rather sweet with lemon barley water and icing sugar.

Comments: Good quality Ben Nevis which is perfectly typical of this vintage and these batches of casks. Showing very well right now but could probably continue in cask for further 2-3 years without any trouble. Although, probably best bottled within that rough timeframe.
