From the Diageo Rare Malt Selection, a highly collectable bottle from the silent distillery St. Magdalene of Linlithgow. Bottled in October 1998 at natural cask strength this limited bottling of 19 years old whisky was distilled in 1979.

    Saint Magdalene (Linlithgow)

A victim of the 1980s cutbacks, St Magdalene was also bottled as Linlithgow during its existence. Founded in 1795, it was established on a site that had older origins of distilling. The town itself had at least 5 distilleries at one point. This Lowland distillery principally produced for blends although there were a couple of highly regarded official and independent releases. It’s only with the passage of time that we’ve been able to appreciate its qualities. The distillery site was well-connected with the Union Canal and nearby railway providing access. In fact, today, you can take the train and still see many of the original stone-built buildings that are C-grade listed and still stand, having been converted into residential accommodation. The distillery equipment may have long gone, but at least St Magdalene exists in a physical form.
