    Abhainn Dearg

Arguably Scotland’s most remote distillery, Abhainn Dearg, which means Red River, is perched on the western edge of the Isle of Lewis with the next stop being North America. Its whisky is a reflection of its environment and the tenacity of its owner and distiller, Mark Tayburn, who set out to create a rugged whisky that could only be distilled on Lewis. Featuring the most unique shaped stills in Scotland that are based upon illicit stills once found on the isles, Abhainn Dearg produces a style of whisky rarely seen. The handcrafted nature of the distillation means that every drop is precious and the team have gone so far as to grow barley on Lewis for the first time in living memory.
