Macallan 30 Years Old 1988 - Mizunara Cask Finish

The Macallan 1988 Mizunara Finish is the result of the long-term corporation between the German Whisky business japanwhiskys.com and the East Asia Whisky Co. from Singapore. In June 1988, this Single Malt Scotch Whisky from Macallan was distilled and matured for 29 years in an ex-bourbon cask (5344). In 2018, the Macallan Whisky was filled into a  Japanese Mizunara oak cask (18/04003). High-end Scotch from the Speyside meets Japanese beautiful and elaborated work of art in Whisky making.

The elegant decanter has been laser engraving, refined with gold paint. The label on the back is made of high-grade Japanese Echizen Washi paper, which was tailor-made, individually glued and carefully attached to the bottle, leading to the characteristic fraying.

Washi paper has always played an important role in the life of Japanese people. As one legend says, a woman has shown pity to people in some local community and taught them how to produce Washi-paper in order to earn money. The goddess of Washi paper is worshipped in the temple of Okamoto Otaki.

The wooden presentation boxes are made from rosewood, also named Dalbergia Latifolia, basically an endangered wood stemming from India. However, sustainability is important and the profit made from using rosewood was donated to charities. Rosewood, generally, is used for luxury articles, for example, expensive furniture.

An extremely rare bottling with only 50 bottles ever made, each one has been individually numbered.
