Arran Smugglers' Series - Volume 1 & 2

The Smugglers' Series which is a trilogy of three limited edition Arran Malts which are a nod to the rich history of Whisky distillation on their home island.

The Illicit Whisky Trade of the 18th and 19th centuries is the inspiration behind the Smugglers’ Series from Isle of Arran Distillery.
Each new release features packaging which recalls the hiding places used by smugglers, starting with a book which has a cut-out space to hold the bottle.
Inside the bottle, the whisky itself has a heavier peat influence, which the distiller said is similar to the whisky produced on the island in the past.
Euan Mitchell, managing direct of Isle of Arran Distillery, said: “We’re proud of the whisky-making heritage of the island.

In this Smugglers’ Series Vol.2 ‘The High Seas’ Arran have paid tribute to the exuberant character of those striving to outwit the Government’s representatives in the pursuit of the production of the famed Arran Waters. This dram is a powerful marriage of whisky matured in the finest rum casks with time-honoured peated spirit and a rich layer of first-fill Bourbon barrel adding sweetness and fruit. The use of rum casks in the maturation serves as recognition of Arran’s importance, in years gone by, in the trade of diverse, black market liquor. The resulting liquid is complex, full of character and a perfect tribute to these independent characters of Arran.
