    Saint Magdalene (Linlithgow)

A victim of the 1980s cutbacks, St Magdalene was also bottled as Linlithgow during its existence. Founded in 1795, it was established on a site that had older origins of distilling. The town itself had at least 5 distilleries at one point. This Lowland distillery principally produced for blends although there were a couple of highly regarded official and independent releases. It’s only with the passage of time that we’ve been able to appreciate its qualities. The distillery site was well-connected with the Union Canal and nearby railway providing access. In fact, today, you can take the train and still see many of the original stone-built buildings that are C-grade listed and still stand, having been converted into residential accommodation. The distillery equipment may have long gone, but at least St Magdalene exists in a physical form.
