Nestled in the heart of Toyama Prefecture, Saburomaru Distillery is a hidden gem in Japan’s whisky landscape, known for its bold and smoky expressions. Founded in 1952 by Wakatsuru Shuzō, a sake brewery with over a century of history, Saburomaru is one of Japan’s few distilleries specializing in heavily peated whisky, setting it apart from many of its counterparts. In 2017, it underwent a significant renovation, introducing a unique cast-iron pot still—Japan’s first—designed to enhance the depth and complexity of its whisky. Saburomaru's small-batch production ensures a meticulous focus on quality, yielding rich, smoky drams with a distinct character.
