Pattisons Limited Distillers Leith

Few items genuinely deserve to be called a piece of whisky history — this is one of them. This incredibly rare and well-preserved Victorian stoneware whisky jug was made for the Pattisons Brothers of Leith, dating to the 1890s. The Pattison Brothers were as famous for their flamboyance in marketing their whisky - most memorably distributing 500 parrots trained to cry out their brand name! However, their extravagance masked a far darker story — in 1901 the brothers were jailed for fraud and embezzlement, triggering the so-called Pattison Crash and bringing the Victorian whisky boom to an abrupt end.
