Macallan James Bond 18 Years Old 2007

Diamonds Are Forever 55th Anniversary Release
Lot #1500002
FINISH DATE

The Macallan Diamonds Are Forever 55th Anniversary Release commemorates 55 years since the release of the classic James Bond film, continuing The Macallan’s celebrated partnership with the legendary franchise. Long regarded as James Bond’s whisky of choice, Macallan has featured prominently across the Bond film series, further cementing the connection between the two icons. In contrast to the James Bond 60th Anniversary series released in 2022, this expression stands apart with a declared vintage of 2007 and an 18-year age statement. Bottled at 45.5% ABV, the whisky has been matured in a combination of sherry-seasoned European and American oak casks, alongside an unusual and intriguing inclusion of red wine casks. While The Macallan is renowned for its mastery of sherry cask maturation, the addition of red wine casks introduces a distinctive layer of complexity, subtly referencing scenes in the film where Bond’s refined understanding of wine plays a pivotal role. The presentation is equally compelling, with the bottle sitting in a presentation tube which draws inspiration from original Diamonds Are Forever production artwork held within the official Bond archives. Design elements such as the iconic laser satellite and the film’s opening title sequence offer a rare glimpse behind the scenes, reinforcing The Macallan’s reputation for combining exceptional whisky-making with cinematic storytelling.
Macallan

Founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid, the Elchies Distillery as it was known initially, did not become the Macallan-Glenlivet in name until 1892. Since then, it has undergone massive expansion with Edrington and William Grant & Sons combining forces in 1999 to purchase Highland Distillers for £601 million. By then, the reputation of the distillery for its sherry-led style of whisky was already firmly in place. The new ownership model has enabled the distillery to produce new ranges, reach out to new demographics and establish itself as an international brand of quality. Bottles are Macallan are increasingly sought after for their commodity value and not the contents, which often are of high quality. Moving to a new distillery site in recent years, will in the long-term, allow Macallan to produce more and if needed, the old distillery sits idle despite being capable of producing 11 million litres before it closed in 2018.
