Kilkerran Work In Progress 6

Bourbon Wood
Lot #0281123
FINISH DATE
31 March 2016
For the 6th release of Kilkerran's Work In Progress, we continue to be spoilt by the Glengyle distillery with two whiskies instead of one! As with the 5th release, one whisky was matured in Sherry casks and the other was matured in bourbon casks. This is the latter, the beautiful bourbon cask matured expression. Kilkerran is expected to bottle its debut 12 year old later this year (2016) and already a high standard has been set by its work in progress range. We expect demand for these releases only to grow as the distillery becomes more appreciated.
Glengyle (Kilkerran)

The Glengyle distillery can trace its roots back to the heydays of Campbeltown and 1872. Like so many in the town, the distillery closed in the 1920s and the builds were used for a variety of purposes. It was only in 2000 when Hedley Wright, when faced with Campbeltown losing its regional status with the Scotch Whisky Association, bought what remained of the distillery to ensure there were 3 distilleries in the town. The first spirit ran in 2004, from stills acquired from the closed Ben Wyvis distillery. Enthusiasts were able to follow its development via the Work in Progress range, bottling under the name of Kilkerran. Since these early days, the distillery has gone from strength to strength, manned on a part-time basis by the Springbank team. A heavily peated range was recently added to the staple 12 year old, 8 cask strength offerings and the debut of the 16 year old. Due to the small production and high demand, Kilkerran is an increasingly sought-after distillery.
