John Power & Son Dublin Whiskey

This is a 1950s merchant bottling of John Power & Son pot still whiskey, from the days before Powers joined with Jameson and Cork Distilleries to form Irish Distillers in 1966. At the time, Powers was still one of the great Dublin distillers, producing its whiskey at the famous John’s Lane Distillery. Like Jameson, Powers sold some of its whiskey in bulk to trusted merchants, grocers and publicans, who bottled it themselves using official distillery labels. This bottle was filled by P. Flynn & Co., a public house on Main Street in Carrick-on-Shannon, County Leitrim. Flynn’s was a well-known local pub, and the name is still associated with the premises today. It is a fatastic piece of Irish whiskey history: a 1950s Powers pot still whiskey, bottled locally by a Carrick-on-Shannon publican, from the last years before the old independent Dublin distilleries disappeared into the modern Irish whiskey industry.
