John Jameson & Son 7 Years Old

This wonderfully preserved bottle of John Jameson & Son 7 Years Old - 3 Star, with a great fill-level for its age. It comes from the long-closed Bow Street distillery in Dublin and is thought to date to the 1930s, putting it close to a century old. Bottled Jameson from this period is extraordinarily scarce. In fact, the brand did not officially release whiskey in bottle form until after it joined the newly created Irish Distillers in 1966. Bow Street’s first sanctioned single-bottle release arrived in 1968, and by 1975 all production had moved south to the new Midleton distillery in Cork, signalling the end of both Bow Street and fellow Dublin distillery Power’s John’s Lane. The “3 Star” marking was Jameson’s early quality grading, denoting a well-aged, higher-tier pot-still-forward whiskey. Paired with the 7-year statement, it represented a dependable premium offering of its day. Its 1930s origin makes it even more compelling: this was a decade when the Irish whiskey industry was still reeling from the aftershocks of American Prohibition, which had cut off one of its largest export markets. Combined with shrinking access to Commonwealth trade and the rise of Scotch, very few bottles from this era survived. This example stands as a rare and atmospheric relic from one of the most dramatic chapters in Irish whiskey history.
