The cask was filled on the 15/05/2013, it has been maturing in a warehouse at a bonded warehouse by Volpe & Castello. Fees / Other costs to be aware of: Storage Fees – £1.25 per week (racked/dunnage) Delivery Order Processing - £25.00 Cask Insurance - £0.5% Cask Value Regauging - £75.00 Duty Paid Sample - £30.00 (10cl) Tasting Notes - Supplied by Angus MacRaild (Whisky Consultant & Author) Nose: sharper citus fruit characteristics up front, along with mineral qualities such as stones, chalk and slight salinity. Develops more oily and textural impressions with a good waxy character and hints of grassy olive oil and clay. Water brings further enhancement to the citrus notes and a more generous fruit profile overall. Palate: sweet, rounded and full bodied. A classical Ben Nevis distillate profile that recalls some older 1990s vintages with these combinations of waxes, mineral oil, green and subtle exotic fruit notes. There is also some elegant natural sweetness in the form of barley sugars and honey. Water once again reveals an elevated fruit profile and reveals a fatter texture. Finish: good length, some lime, delicate medicinal notes and dried cereals and flowers. Comments: An excellent young Ben Nevis, emblematic of the distillery style and showing a well-developed level of maturity and character. A whisky that could be bottled now, but it could also continue to mature beneficially for years to come. A cask with plenty options... IMPORTANT: Annual storage fees and any cask transfer admin fees will become payable by the buyer. Legal ownership of the cask will be transferred to the buyer once payment has been received by Just Whisky. Funds will be held by Just Whisky until the buyer is in legal receipt of the cask ownership to protect the buyer's transaction. Non-UK buyers must appoint a duty representative to act on his/her behalf for transfer of ownership of the cask. UK revenue trader (business or private individual connected to the trade), will need to be registered with HMRC and hold a WOWGR certificate.

    Ben Nevis

This Highland survivor in Fort William is home to many bizarre tales of experiments and colourful owners. Today, it is owned by Asahi Group, who has used much of its production for its blending requirements in Japan. What Ben Nevis is released domestically is highly sought after and of very good quality. Established in 1825 by ‘Long’ John Macdonald on the foot of the slopes of Ben Nevis, the UK’s highest mountain. The whisky proved to be very popular and prompted a second distilling site to help with demand. In the 1950’s, a Coffey still was installed allowing the distillery to produce grain and in doing so, Ben Nevis became the first Scottish distillery to produce both types of whisky on the same site. The 1970s and 1980s were extremely hard times for the distillery with bouts of closures, before the arrival of Japanese owners and thereafter Ben Nevis has continued to prosper.
