SMWS Special Auction

SMWS Special Auction

Just Whisky Auctions is proud to present for sale, an incredible collection of Scotch Malt Whisky Society bottlings from one member, procured over 20 years of membership. The collection consists of 90 bottles from a wide range of distilleries, including some casks dating back to the ’60s, ’70s, & ’80s.

Founded in 1983 by a group of friends including tax accountant Philip ‘Pip’ Hills, actor Russel Hunter, contractor David Alison, writer W Gordon Smith and architect Ben Tindall. It was one of the key companies to promote the bottling of whiskies at cask strength and the idea of ‘single casks’.

The Society's whiskies are notable for their uniform presentation and the coding system by which the different bottlings are denoted. Green glass bottles were adopted to ensure that the colour of the liquid did not influence members' perceptions.

This collection includes a number of bottles we'd love to sip, not least a 40-year-old Longmorn, a Lochside 32-year-old 1966, a 37-year-old Dailuaine 1980, a Mortlach 15-year-old 2001, a 16-year-old Cragganmore 1992, a Teaninich 32-year-old 1983, and a 14-year-old Bowmore 1997.
