West Midlands Distillery Inaugural Release

The very first single malt English whisky produced and released from the Midlands of England, by the West Midlands Distillery, WMD. Their goal was always to make uncompromising whisky using brewing and distilling methods passed down through their families, focused on flavour. From floor malting heritage grains through selecting brewers yeasts and varying fermentation times, to distillation in direct fire copper pot stills, tradition is key to the process. Finally cask selection identifies the freshest and most active casks including recoopering casks to produce smaller casks that increase effect on maturation. This inaugural release, 'The Matriarch' is a blending of 4 different casks which were also bottled in their own right to showcase the constituent parts of this blend. 1st fill bourbon, bourbon and oloroso quarter casks and a Caribbean rum cask. Bottled at 51.9%, one of only 174 individually numbered bottles. Each bottle is unique and has been hand spattered with paints symbolising the different cask types used in the bottling.
