Talisker Friend's Of The Classic Malts 2013

    Lot #0300889
    FINISH DATE
    31 May 2016

This rare triple distilled single malt from the Talisker Distillery on the Isle of Skye was bottled exclusively for the Friends of the Classic Malts in 2013. As a distillery known for its robust, maritime character and traditional double distillation, this triple-distilled release is a unique and experimental expression of Talisker’s iconic style. The additional distillation step lends a smoother, more refined texture, while still retaining Talisker’s signature peppery spice, coastal salinity, and gentle smokiness. Bottled in limited quantities and never released to the general public, this is a true collector’s item — and a fascinating insight into a different side of one of Scotland’s most celebrated distilleries.

    Talisker

Situated on the Isle of Skye, Talisker was established in 1830 although illicit distilling was commonplace in this remote location. For many years it was the only distillery on the island, but this has changed in recent times. It remains a classic example of an island whisky and has a staunch fanbase in spite of some variable releases in recent times. As one of the Classic Malts from Diageo, its single malt presence is sizeable and with a recent rebrand and considerable investment in the site as a tourist attraction, we can expect even more Talisker. Featuring a strong maritime influence combined with peat, the distillery still uses worm tubs that are cooled by seawater. The site was the location of Scotland’s last great distillery fire in 1960, when a valve on the spirit still was not closed properly, prompting a massive rebuild that took 2 years.
