1x Springbank 2000 Hogshead (Fresh Bourbon) Cask No.112, held in bond at Springbank distillery, Campbeltown. The cask was filled in 2000, it has been maturing in a bonded warehouse at the Springbank distillery ever since. The cask was re-gauged in the 10th of February 2025, following are the results of the re-gauge. Original Bulk Litres 204.0 / New Bulk Litres: 131.8 Original Strength 63.7% / New Strength: 43.3% Original Litres of Alcohol 129.9 / New Litres of Alcohol: 57.9 Tasting Notes by Angus MacRaild (Whisky Consultant & Author) Nose: a very pure and distillate-driven example of Springbank, with strong distillery character. Immediate aromas of lemon rind, waxes and mineral oil. Also chalky characteristics, sheep wool and clean coastal impressions. The ABV makes this a lighter profile of Springbank but still classical and elegant. Palate: a good oily and waxy profile, good body despite the softness from the low cask strength. Lots of linseed and olive oil impressions, lanolin, delicate medicinal qualities and notes of gorse and sandalwood. Also quite a few herbal impressions like verbena. Finish: medium length, back on herbal notes, bitter lemon, slightly salty and still quite waxy and mineral. Comments: an elegant and slightly softer profile Springbank that still shows strong distillery character and high drinkability. But given the low cask strength it definitely needs to be bottled soon. IMPORTANT: The buyer of this cask must arrange to remove the cask from Springbank Distillery within 90 days of the auction ending, unless already a Cask Owners Member at Springbank.
Removal Fee: £160 - Transfer Ownership Fee: £70
Legal ownership of the cask will be transferred to the buyer once payment has been received by Just Whisky. Funds will be held by Just Whisky until the buyer is in legal receipt of the cask ownership to protect the buyer's transaction.
The buyer will be responsible for any costs relating to removing the cask from bond in the future (i.e UK excise duty / VAT) as well as any other costs associated with cask movement and bottling.
Non-UK buyers must appoint a duty representative to act on his/her behalf for transfer of ownership of the cask. The duty representative will need to be registered with HMRC and will normally charge an annual fee for the service.
UK revenue trader (business or private individual connected to the trade), will need to be registered with HMRC and hold a WOWGR certificate.

    Springbank

Seen by some as Scotland’s, if not the world’s greatest distillery, Springbank is a unique proposition. Not much has changed at Springbank since its inception in 1828; it still follows a historical oddity of distilling, it remains owned by J&A Mitchell and it still uses floor malting for 100% of its requirements. And all of this from the fairly remote location of Campbeltown, which is the former distilling capital of Scotland. Three distinct styles are produced at the distillery with a triple distilled whisky (Hazelburn), a heavily peated (Longrow) and the classic Springbank. More than ever before, these are in huge demand from the UK and international distributors. Due to the historical nature of the distillery and the methods they follow, production cannot be increased too dramatically to accommodate rising demand. Sadly, it looks like we’ll all have to chase a little harder for anything Springbank-related for a while to come.
