Spirit of Yorkshire 2017

English whisky is enjoying a resurgence and the Spirit of Yorkshire distillery is right at the front of this new wave. Founded in 2016, it has recently given us Yorkshire’s first-ever single malt whisky; in a county that’s more known for puddings and tea, it was long overdue. The late Dr Jim Swan provided his expertise when the project was underway and the distillery can call upon its own family farm to provide all its barley needs. Situated in Hunmanby, the team are able to control the whole process from the field to distilling; something that we rarely seen nowadays with other examples being Arbikie and Daftmill. Unlike many new distilleries, they are using classic Forsyth pot stills constructed in Scotland and the young whiskies from Yorkshire, so far, shows great promise.
