    Millburn

Millburn is the only remaining distillery of the Inverness trio that is still standing today. The other two, Glen Albyn and Glen Mhor, have been replaced by retail units, but Millburn has been put into a new use, as part of a hotel chain. Situated on the other side of Inverness, it too faced the same pressures around land and valuable space. Somehow it survived albeit with a new purpose. It was the oldest of the Inverness trio, located outside of the city at that time in the early 1800s, which expanded and swallowed up this early settlement. Back then its purpose changed from brewery to distillery and also a flour mill. In the 1870s, David Rose saw the potential in producing whisky and put it back into production. It remained relatively unchanged by modern standards when it was closed in 1985 as part of the industry-wide cutbacks. Very little of Millburn was bottled as a single malt, so appreciate a dram when that moment arrives.
