A fine example of early 20th century Scottish blending history, this Thom & Cameron Limited 'Rob Roy' Old Scotch Whisky bottle from Glasgow is an incredibly rare survivor from the golden era of Scottish whisky merchants. Founded in the mid-19th century by Robert Thom, a distiller and wine & spirit merchant, the firm later became Thom & Cameron and grew into a major exporter with large bonded warehouses on Cheapside Street, Glasgow. By the early 20th century, they were renowned for creating high-quality blends, including 'Scottish Standard', 'Old Highland', and 'Rob Roy' — the blend this bottle contains, as confirmed by its lead foil seal. The bottle retains its original, beautifully aged paper label bearing the company's crowned lion crest, bold red lettering, and a small guarantee label which reads: "We guarantee this Old Whisky to be a blend of the finest Old Glenlivet, Islay, and other Famed Scotch Whiskies. It is kept in bond for many years and thoroughly matured in wood before being blended and bottled in our warehouse, and is pronounced by connoisseurs to be the Cream of Scotch Whisky." The bottle also retains its original branded cork, marked 'Rob Roy' and 'Thom & Cameron Glasgow', dating the piece to circa 1920s–1930s.

    Blended Whisky

Blended whisky is an artful marriage of different types of whiskies, typically combining grain whiskies with malt whiskies from various distilleries. This blending process aims to achieve a balance, creating a whisky with a harmonious flavour profile where the strengths of each component are highlighted, while any potential weaknesses are cleverly masked. Blended whiskies offer a consistent taste across batches, making them a favourite for both new whisky drinkers and connoisseurs alike. They can vary widely in style, often providing a smoother, more approachable character than single malts, and are perfect for enjoying neat, on the rocks, or as the foundation for a cocktail. Each blend is a unique recipe, often kept secret by master blenders, showcasing their expertise in creating a spirit that's greater than the sum of its parts.
