Putachieside 21 Years Old

Back in 2019, Cadenhead’s picked up some ex-vermouth casks and decided to try something a little different. One of those casks was filled with single malt whisky from Benrinnes Distillery and left to mature for another six years in their Campbeltown warehouse. When they sampled it again recently, it was clear the spirit had reached its peak. Because vermouth is infused with botanicals after distillation, the resulting liquid doesn’t meet the strict criteria to be labelled single malt Scotch whisky. So, Cadenhead’s have released it as a "Scottish Spirit Drink"—a unique expression that also revives the name of a lesser-known piece of their history: Putachieside. Putachieside was the area in old Aberdeen where Wm Cadenhead Ltd was first established back in the early Victorian days. This limited release tips its hat to those roots while showcasing the brand’s continued spirit of experimentation.
