Port Charlotte 8 Years Old 2003
From The Scotch Malt Whisky Society, a Port Charlotte matured for 8 years, Ex-Bourbon Refill Barrel. Distilled 31st of August 2003, One of 225 bottles from a single cask.
Port Charlotte is the peated distillate produced at Bruichladdich distillery as a partial homage to a nearby silent Islay distillery. A heavily peated malt, it is around 40ppm and now is featured as part of the Bruichladdich core range as a 10 year old, but also special cask variation and Islay barley editions. The original Port Charlotte distillery was just down the road from Bruichladdich, in the village of the same name. Founded in 1829, it lasted for a century before DCL purchased its parent company and closed the distillery. The original Bruichladdich vision was to revive the distillery and utilise the existing warehouses. This venture did not come to fruition and instead, Bruichladdich now uses the warehousing to mature their version of Port Charlotte, which is a nice touch.
