A 10 year old single cask release, distilled on the 3rd of February 2015 and bottled from a single 1st fill STR Barrique barrel at 61.8% vol. Outturn of only 265 bottles. The 1st release of double "pot still" distilled Penderyn Welsh single malt whisky by The Scotch Malt Whisky Society. Interestingly, SMWS have allocated 2 "distillery codes" to Penderyn, 128 and now 164. "128" releases are whiskies distilled in their Faraday stills which have been producing since 2000. "164" is single malt, Welsh whisky distilled in traditional Scottish "lantern" style copper pot stills installed in 2014.

    Penderyn

Whisky and Wales seems like an unlikely combination and when Pendryn was founded in 2000, it was the first distillery in generations. The stuff of bar chats and why not? That’s what exactly happened in the case of Pendryn in the 1990s. Situated in the village of the same name, the distillery is within reach of the Brecon Beacons National Park and whisky debuted in 2004. The distillery features a unique pot style designed by Dr David Faraday that was replicated again in 2013. The Pendryn method of distillation produces a high strength distillate with plenty of copper contact due to performed plates. This still was key to the Pendryn style although in 2014 a pair of traditional Scottish stills were commissioned. The owners have big plans with other distilleries in Wales being planned, complete with Faraday stills.
