Masataka Taketsuru  founded The Nikka whisky company in 1934, creating the Yoichi distillery Hokkaido Island. Taketsuru studying Organic Chemistry at The University of Glasgow in 1918 and then learned his trade apprenticing at the Longmorn and Hazelburn distilleries. Nikka has grown to become one of the best known names in Japanese whisky. G&G is a blended whisky introduced in 1968 using in-house and overseas whiskies. Blended whisky from the Yoichi distillery and Sendai factory (Miyagikyo distillery).
