The Macallan Edition Series is a limited-edition range of single malt whiskies launched by The Macallan between 2015 and 2020. Each release in the series explores unique cask influences and showcases the brand’s commitment to innovation in cask selection, while maintaining Macallan’s signature richness and depth of flavor. The series was designed to highlight the role that wood plays in shaping the character of whisky. Edition No. 1 | 2015 Release (75cl) –A distinctive single malt of high quality, crafted by Master Whisky Maker Bob Dalgarno. It draws from eight unique European and American oak cask styles to create an intriguing, multi-dimensional whisky that opens light and soft, developing into a rich and dark finish. Edition No. 2 | 2016 Release (70cl) – A collaboration with the Roca brothers of El Celler de Can Roca (a world-renowned restaurant). This edition balanced European and American oak casks, with a warm, fruity, and slightly sweet flavor profile. Edition No. 3 | 2017 Release (70cl) – Created in collaboration with master perfumer Roja Dove. This release emphasized aroma, combining different cask types to deliver a fragrant, floral, and citrusy whisky with sweet vanilla and fresh oak. Edition No. 4 | 2018 Release (70cl) – Celebrated the opening of The Macallan’s new distillery. This edition had a bold, complex character, showcasing structure and balance with notes of nutmeg, clove, and oak spice. Edition No. 5 | 2019 Release (70cl) – Highlighted the natural color of whisky and was developed in collaboration with Pantone. The focus was on color and flavor harmony, with vibrant notes of toffee, fresh fruit, and oak. Edition No. 6 |(70cl) – The final release in the series, inspired by the River Spey and the natural surroundings of The Macallan Estate. It featured six cask types and offered a rich, balanced profile with dried fruits, spice, and chocolate.

    Macallan

Founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid, the Elchies Distillery as it was known initially, did not become the Macallan-Glenlivet in name until 1892. Since then, it has undergone massive expansion with Edrington and William Grant & Sons combining forces in 1999 to purchase Highland Distillers for £601 million. By then, the reputation of the distillery for its sherry-led style of whisky was already firmly in place. The new ownership model has enabled the distillery to produce new ranges, reach out to new demographics and establish itself as an international brand of quality. Bottles are Macallan are increasingly sought after for their commodity value and not the contents, which often are of high quality. Moving to a new distillery site in recent years, will in the long-term, allow Macallan to produce more and if needed, the old distillery sits idle despite being capable of producing 11 million litres before it closed in 2018.
