No 1 - The Spiritual Home
Easter Elchies House proudly watches over The Macallan distillery in Speyside, Scotland. Built in 1700, this Jacobean manor house is The Macallan's spiritual home.
No 2 - Curiously Small Stills
The Macallan's curiously small and uniquely shaped copper stills help to concentrate the flavour of the 'new make' spirit.
No 3 - The Finest Cut
The 'cut' is the amount of distilled spirit collected from the stills as 'new make' spirit. The Macallan takes one of the finest cuts of any distillery in Scotland; only the best of the best, typically just 16% is selected to fill our casks.
No 4 - Exceptional Oak Casks
The Macallan's oak casks are the single greatest contributors to the outstanding quality, natural colour and distinctive aromas and flavours of The Macallan. Because of this, The Macallan has the most robust wood policy in the industry.
No 5 - Natural Colour
Natural colour is something The Macallan insists upon. It is the interaction of spirit and wood alone which delivers in the rich variety of colour, aroma and taste evident throughout the range.

Founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid, the Elchies Distillery as it was known initially, did not become the Macallan-Glenlivet in name until 1892. Since then, it has undergone massive expansion with Edrington and William Grant & Sons combining forces in 1999 to purchase Highland Distillers for £601 million. By then, the reputation of the distillery for its sherry-led style of whisky was already firmly in place. The new ownership model has enabled the distillery to produce new ranges, reach out to new demographics and establish itself as an international brand of quality. Bottles are Macallan are increasingly sought after for their commodity value and not the contents, which often are of high quality. Moving to a new distillery site in recent years, will in the long-term, allow Macallan to produce more and if needed, the old distillery sits idle despite being capable of producing 11 million litres before it closed in 2018.
