The Macallan Masters of Photography: Steven Klein is the sixth release in the distillery’s acclaimed Masters of Photography series, created in collaboration with the renowned photographer Steven Klein and inspired by the concept of time. Limited to just 1,000 bottles worldwide and bottled at 53.5% ABV, this expression was crafted by Macallan Master Whisky Maker Bob Dalgarno and marks the distillery’s first use of ex-Rioja wine casks, which impart notes of sweet berries, warming spices, and a distinctive pinkish-red hue. Each presentation set includes a black case containing the bottle, one of ten different exclusive Steven Klein signed prints, and a selection of bespoke barware tools inspired by the Roca brothers of the celebrated El Celler de Can Roca restaurant in Spain, with the bottle stopper uniquely fashioned in the shape of a horse’s head. First launched in 2008, the Masters of Photography series has previously featured collaborations with notable photographers including Annie Leibovitz, Elliott Erwitt, and Mario Testino, making this limited release a striking and highly collectible fusion of whisky, art, and design.

    Macallan

Founded in 1824 by Alexander Reid, the Elchies Distillery as it was known initially, did not become the Macallan-Glenlivet in name until 1892. Since then, it has undergone massive expansion with Edrington and William Grant & Sons combining forces in 1999 to purchase Highland Distillers for £601 million. By then, the reputation of the distillery for its sherry-led style of whisky was already firmly in place. The new ownership model has enabled the distillery to produce new ranges, reach out to new demographics and establish itself as an international brand of quality. Bottles are Macallan are increasingly sought after for their commodity value and not the contents, which often are of high quality. Moving to a new distillery site in recent years, will in the long-term, allow Macallan to produce more and if needed, the old distillery sits idle despite being capable of producing 11 million litres before it closed in 2018.
