A rare vintage from the now silent Lowland distillery, St. Magdalene, this exceptional expression was distilled in 1973 and matured for 30 years before bottling in 2004 under the distillery’s original name, Linlithgow. Bottled at natural cask strength, it offers a unique opportunity to experience a piece of Lowland whisky history, making it a highly desirable collector’s item.

    Saint Magdalene (Linlithgow)

A victim of the 1980s cutbacks, St Magdalene was also bottled as Linlithgow during its existence. Founded in 1795, it was established on a site that had older origins of distilling. The town itself had at least 5 distilleries at one point. This Lowland distillery principally produced for blends although there were a couple of highly regarded official and independent releases. It’s only with the passage of time that we’ve been able to appreciate its qualities. The distillery site was well-connected with the Union Canal and nearby railway providing access. In fact, today, you can take the train and still see many of the original stone-built buildings that are C-grade listed and still stand, having been converted into residential accommodation. The distillery equipment may have long gone, but at least St Magdalene exists in a physical form.
