Lindores Friar John Cor

The Cask Strength Congregation Batch - Chapter 1
Lot #1420067
FINISH DATE
22 September 2025
Distilled at the Fife-based Lowland distillery Lindores, The Friar John Cor 'The Cask Strength Congregation Batch' - Chapter 1, was matured in a blend of Monbazillac, STR, and Sherry casks. As with all Lindores bottlings, it has no added colouring, is non-chill filtered, and is bottled onsite at the batch cask strength of 60.2% ABV. The introduction of the Monbazillac casks gives a sweetness and complexity that compliments the classic Lindores style perfectly. The design of the unusual black bottle, mirroring the Exclusive 1494 First Release Bottle, draws on several elements of Lindores Abbey's history, most obviously the dramatic black colour which is inspired by the black cloth tunic worn by the Lindores monks back in 1494. This unique bottle shape is also in homage to the magnificent stone pillars which would have been found throughout the Abbey, the remains of which can still be found today.  This is the first release in the series.
Lindores Abbey

Lindores is a relative newcomer to the Scotch industry, being founded in 2017 after sizeable international investment to bring the vision to life. The site is home to an abbey and is the location of the first historical mention of ‘aqua vitae’, or the forerunner of whisky. This explains the 1494 that you’ll see associated with the distillery and has become a major component of the brand which launched its debut whisky in 2021. Ongoing research suggests that distillation was practised here before the official date and visitors to the distillery are able to experience the life of the monks, before setting foot into the more modern version of distillation. Lindores has utilised the surrounding fields to source its own barley, much like the monks would have done hundreds of years ago. The whisky is light and fruity, typical lowland in style and represents another entry in the growing Fife whisky scene that can already count Daftmill, Eden Mill and Inchdarnie amongst its members.
