    Ledaig 6 Years Old 1972
    G&M Connoisseurs Choice
    Lot #1350478

This Ledaig single malt was distilled in 1972, the first year of production following a decades long hiatus at the Ledaig distillery, the only distillery on the Island of Mull, (Ledaig was the original name for the distillery but was changed to Tobermory sometime after 1975). Matured for 6 years and being bottled for the Connoisseur's Choice range by Gordon & MacPhail. Ledaig is known as one of two expressions distilled by Tobermory. There are both peated and unpeated versions of Ledaig, contrary to popular belief. The other differences being variances in production methods like spirit cut points.

    Tobermory (Ledaig)

Located on the Isle of Mull, the Tobermory distillery was founded in 1798 making it one of Scotland’s oldest. It has endured a turbulent existence since with periods of closure that roughly add up to 96 years in total, including a recent 2-year period from 2017 to allow some much-needed investment on the site. Somehow it has survived, often being repurposed for other uses including cheese storage and residential accommodation. Tobermory is now owned by Distell who have brought that overdue investment and enhancement to the range. There are 2 styles of distillate produced at the distillery, with the main focus being the Tobermory until recently, whereas now there is an even split planned as the heavily peated Ledaig distillate is increasingly popular and a viable alternative to Islay whiskies. With a renewed focus, and expanded core range, we’ll all be enjoying more whiskies from Mull in the coming years.
