Knappogue Castle 36 Years Old 1951

Tullamore takes its name from the small town in which it was founded in 1829 and the D.E.W. pays homage to Daniel Edmund Williams. An iconic figure who started at the distillery as a teenager before rising to distillery manager and distiller. Today, the distillery is owned by William Grant & Sons, of Glenfiddich fame, and is regarded as being the second biggest selling Irish whiskey after Jameson. The original distillery closed in 1954 and the brand was sold before being purchased by its current owners. The financial muscle of Scotch giant ensured that Tullamore would rely upon its own whiskey once more. In 2014, a new distillery was opened on the outskirts of the town to herald a new future. Several of the old buildings survive and have new purposes including a warehouse that acts as a visitor centre.
