Kinclaith 1963
This particular bottle is one of only 64 which was distilled on the 05/12/1963 then matured in cask 10052. The rare whisky was bottled around 33 years later in February 1996.
An illustrious name in scotch whisky by reputation only, Kinclaith was a single malt distillery established within the Strathclyde grain whisky complex to produce a style of whisky. Starting production in 1957, it was until very recently, the last malt distillery to be built in Glasgow. Unfortunately, it lasted less than 2 decades and was dismantled in 1975. This was to make way for the expansion of Strathclyde’s capacity. Any trace of Kinclaith was demolished by 1982 and all that remains are a handful of independent bottlings that have appeared over the years. It was never released officially, instead, it is thanks to the support of Gordon & MacPhail and Signatory that we have some rare casks of this Glasgow distillery. Some of these are excellent but there are a couple that have a soapy characteristic, which suggests they should have gone into blends in the 1960s.
