Kilkerran First Cask Selection & Miniatures

    Lot #0350500
    FINISH DATE
    31 October 2016

This collectable set was released in 2014 to celebrate 10 years since the re-opening of Mitchell's Glengyle Distillery on the 25th March 2004. The set is extremely rare with only 400 being produced.

The set contains 6 full sized bottles, each with a different flavour profile achieved through 10 years maturation in the specified wood type; Oloroso, Fino, Rum, Madeira, Port and Bourbon Wood. All 70cl bottles are at 46% vol.

This lot also benefits from the addition of a complete set of miniatures, which include the same cask type maturations but all bottled at full strength.  The wood types and strengths of the first 6 casks in miniature 5cl bottles are as follows:

    • Cask 2004 no.1 Madeira Butt (60% vol)
    • Cask 2004 no.2 Fino Butt (59.1%vol )
    • Cask 2004 no.3 Bourbon Butt (60.3% vol)
    • Cask 2004 no.4 Oloroso Butt (60.1% vol)
    • Cask 2004 no.5 Rum Butt (60.6% vol)
    • Cask 2004 no.6 Port Butt (59.8% vol)

    Glengyle (Kilkerran)

The Glengyle distillery can trace its roots back to the heydays of Campbeltown and 1872. Like so many in the town, the distillery closed in the 1920s and the builds were used for a variety of purposes. It was only in 2000 when Hedley Wright, when faced with Campbeltown losing its regional status with the Scotch Whisky Association, bought what remained of the distillery to ensure there were 3 distilleries in the town. The first spirit ran in 2004, from stills acquired from the closed Ben Wyvis distillery. Enthusiasts were able to follow its development via the Work in Progress range, bottling under the name of Kilkerran. Since these early days, the distillery has gone from strength to strength, manned on a part-time basis by the Springbank team. A heavily peated range was recently added to the staple 12 year old, 8 cask strength offerings and the debut of the 16 year old. Due to the small production and high demand, Kilkerran is an increasingly sought-after distillery.
