The Original Cask Strength is a special edition Kilchoman bottled at natural cask strength, presenting the whisky in its purest form with an unparalleled intensity of flavour and texture. Anthony Wills, managing director of Kilchoman, said: “it has always been my intention to release a cask strength expression once we had the stock available. This is the way single malt should be drunk. It allows everyone to experience Kilchoman with all the characteristics captured in the glass”. This 2nd release has been fully matured for over 6 years in quarter casks and bottled at cask strength.

    Kilchoman

Founded in 2005, Kilchoman is a family-owned distillery that has gone about producing its Islay whisky on its own terms. From its humble beginnings as a farm distillery, it still produces a 100% Islay whisky, which is as a result of grain grown on the island, distilled on-site and matured on Islay. Amongst its larger neighbours, most of whom are corporate-owned, Kilchoman has stuck by what it believes is best. Other releases are not yet 100% Islay but with recent enhancements, Kilchoman is more self-reliant. When Anthony Wills announced his intention to build a distillery, it was the first on Islay in over 100 years. There were initial difficulties including a fire in 2006, but soon the whiskies found an audience and the distillery was expanded. This has been further enhanced with a second identical distillery being built nearby to effectively double production. The Kilchoman range has continued to grow, not only in age statements but the number of options including a Fino sherry cask and a 12-year-old cask strength.
