Kavalan Solist Vinho Barrique

Lot #0270034
FINISH DATE
29 February 2016
A multi-award-winning full strength vinho single cask bottling from the much-desired Kavalan (King Car Whisky) Taiwanese distillery. It was awarded a gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2012 but most importantly it was awarded the world's best single malt whisky of 2015 in the Worlds Whiskies Awards presented by Whisky Magazine. Kavalan Solist Vinho is aged in the finest slow grown white oak which is air seasoned for 2 years. After soaking with some of the world's best wines, the casks are handcrafted with a specially developed toasting and charring process in the distillery's own cooperage to bring out the flavours that characterise this fine whisky. The distillery was completed in December 2005. It produced its first spirit in March 2006 and released its first bottling in December 2008. The distillery has since been named by Whisky Magazine as the World Icons of Whisky "Whisky Visitor Attraction of the Year" for 2011, and its products have won several other awards.
Kininvie

The lesser known of the William Grant & Sons Dufftown distilleries, Kininvie sits within the shadow of its more illustrious neighbours of Balvenie and Glenfiddich. Founded in 1990, it is a simplistic and efficient construction that consists of a mash tun, 3 wash and 6 spirit stills with 10 washbacks. Its primary purpose until recently was to support Grant & Son’s blended scotches and the popular Monkey Shoulder range. This all changed in 2006, when its debut single malt was bottled under the name of Hazelwood and there have been several releases under this brand since. However, in 2013, the name Kininvie was used for the first time as a single malt, prompting huge demand outside of Taiwan. Subsequent releases followed in the coming years as everyone wanted to try this new Speyside distillery that was bottling with an array of impressive age statements. A more experimental range was released in 2019, showcasing the different elements that the distillery can deliver including triple distillation, different mash bills and cask maturation.
