Jameson Irish Whiskey (1 Litre)
Today, Jameson is a giant of Irish whiskey, but had more humble origins when it first began distilling in 1800. Originally located famously on Bow Street in Dublin, the distillery was started by the Stein family who had strong connections to Scotland. Surprisingly, the name Jameson comes from the family lawyer, who was employed to manage the distillery by the Stein’s. Somewhere along the line, he decided to name the whiskey after himself and as they say, the rest is history. A museum now resides on the street as the distillery itself upped sticks in 1985 and swept across Ireland to the city of Cork, or more precisely the small town of Midleton near Cork. Now referred to as the Midleton distillery, Jameson has gone from strength to strength, while collectors and enthusiasts seek out whiskies from the original Bow Street location. Midleton today is responsible for such famous brands as Jameson, Redbreast, the Spot range, Paddy’s and of course, Powers.
