Why Lunar? The Moon has two cycles; the regular, monthly one and a more significant full cycle of 18.6 years, known as Lunar Nutation. As I write in 2007, the Moon is in the next turning point of its full cycle. This is the first Lunar Nutation of the 21st century and the Moon will not return to this point until the cycle is next completed in 2025.

To the early inhabitants of Orkney, events such as these were very closely observed. Structures such as the Ring of Brodgar were built specifically to aid astronomical study. One of the finest Neolithic stone circles anywhere in the world, the Ring of Brodgar has featured for many years on the label of Highland Park 18 Years Old.

This exceptional bottling celebrates the completion of the Moon’s full cycle, a celestial phenomenon which is, we think, best observed from the Ring of Brodgar. You can enjoy the Highland Park Lunar Bottling, however, from the comfort of your own home.

    Highland Park

The Macallan might be the jewel in the crown of Edrington, but a close second is Highland Park, especially after the brand investment, it has received in recent times. Established in 1798 by David Robertson on the outskirts on Kirkwall on Orkney, history suggests the site was used for illicit distillery way before this official date. In a landscape shaped by nature, ravaged by Vikings and the tides of war, Highland Park manages to bring everything together. A historical whisky that is universally appreciated, offering a little bit of something and famously called an ‘all rounder’, from locally sourced peat to a welcoming rugged characteristic. Highland Park doesn’t need the branding to stand out from the crowd. An increasingly varied core range can seem bewildering to someone new, so start with the 18 year old and being your voyage.
