Hampden OWH 8 Years Old 2012

Formalized in 1743, Hampden Estate was operated as a large sugar plantation under the ownership of Scotsman Archibald Sterling in 1753 and remains one of the only independent distilleries in Jamaica.

 

Exclusive to The Whisky Roundabout of Milan, this is a single cask #671 rum from the famed Hampden distillery - part of its Trelawny Endemic Birds Series. Distilled in 2012 and aged for 8 years at the distillery before being bottled in 2020, this is labelled Black Billed Streamertail. Bottled at 61.8% abv and limited to 252 bottles.

The Trelawny Endemic Birds Sereis focuses on highlighting the authentic and unique character of rums distilled and aged in the tropics. 

 

OWH is the Hampden mark for rums with an ester level of between 40-80g/hlAA. 

Marks are often referred to by cryptic letter codes, each one corresponding to a specific method of production and level of esters. Hampden Estate produces 8 different marks, each registered at the Spirits Pool Association in Jamaica, ranging from about 50 grams to an incredible 1600 grams of ester per hectoliter of pure alcohol.
