An official bottling from the now closed distillery Glenugie, Distillery fell silent in 1983 and has since been demolished. This Cask strength Edition Glenugie bottling is the second release from the Deoch an Doras range of official bottlings and was distilled in 1980 before being bottled an incredible 30 long years later in 2011 by the owners of the brand The Chivas Brothers.

    Glenugie

One of the great lost distilleries that was based in the East Highlands and founded in 1831. Like so many of the distilleries we’ve written about it was blighted by changes in ownership, periods of closure and a lack of investment. It even had a substantial period initially in its life as a brewery. Very little of Glenugie made it into the single malt market, but what did, was well received. Most of its output went into the blending community who valued was this relatively small distillery produced. Eventually it fell victim to the widespread cuts of the 1980s and its buildings were demolished or taken up by commercial firms for other uses. In 2018, the last original buildings (warehouses) were demolished. What remains of the whisky is likely to be within the stocks of Chivas, who own the brand and have occasionally released a cask in recent times.
