Glenturret Manager's Dram

2nd Release
Lot #1190623
FINISH DATE
31 October 2023
Distilled at the Highland distillery Glenturret, this single malt is their 2nd release of the Manager's Dram Series.  Respecting the traditional values and skills which have been passed down through the decades has always been the focus of The Glenturret. Of course, many changes happen over time: processes, machinery, source of ingredients, volumes, and even ownership. Undoubtedly these influences all help shape the character of the whisky, but they understand the most important contributing factor is people. As long as there is a strong thread of invested, skilled people passing their knowledge down to the next generation, the footprint of The Glenturret will always stay consistent. To celebrate the custodians of The Glenturret distillery, Manager's Dram Release No.2 has been created from a small batch of casks spanning many years. This whisky has predominantly matured in European oak sherry casks, with hints of American oak and mellow peat, giving you a moment to reflect on the work of those craftspeople who have gone before.  Like the first release, distillery manager Ian Renwick has chosen the casks for this release. He has stated that this has a very different character to the first release but also has similarities that you will find familiar.
Glenturret

Glenturret is one of Scotland’s oldest, if not the oldest distillery, founded in 1775 officially under the name of Hosh, by illicit distillers. Unsurprisingly there is a rich history to the site, which is one of the most picturesque distilleries in Scotland. By current standards, Glenturret is a very small producer and until recently was used mainly by Edrington as a Famous Grouse attraction, thereby overlooking the single malt. It was never a comfortable fit and came to an end in 2019 when the Lalique Group purchased the distillery. Since then, a new single malt range has been launched in 2020, under the watchful eye of Bob Dalgarno was the Master blender at Macallan. He has taken the maturating stock and crafted a series of whiskies that remind many of Macallan, but at a fraction of the cost. A pleasant surprise to many in 2020, expectations are rising around Glenturret as it seeks to establish a new identity.
