Glenlivet 12 years old, this special bottle has a letter from Charles Dickens printed on the back bottle label. Charles Dickens was a rich man, with a finely-developed tastes for the good things in life. This letter to a friend, written in 1852, shows that he appreciated The Glenlivet as a fine malt whisky. Nothing has changed. This Glenlivet is still distilled as it always was, where it always was, high above the valleys of Speyside, the famous heatland of malt whisky excellence.

    Glenlivet

One of the giant Speyside distilleries, Glenlivet had a humble beginning as a farm called Minmore, purchased by George Smith in 1858 who then established a distillery on the remote site. Stripping equipment from the closure of 2 other distilleries (Cairngorm, Upper Drummin), the renamed Glenlivet distillery sparks into life in 1859 and has gone from strength to strength since. The Glenlivet helped establish Speyside as a leading source of whisky and inspired others to use its name. Today, it is one of the biggest, if not the biggest in Scotland – engaged in an eternal struggle with Glenfiddich for bragging rights. Around 21 million litres are produced annually, which gives the distillery an incredible array of whiskies and a worldwide reach. Owned by Pernod Ricard, there are now 3 still rooms contained 14 pairs of stills; an incredible sight if you’re able to visit its remote location near Ballindalloch.
