This is a set of six bottles from the Speyside distillery Glenallachie that celebrates the 50th anniversary of the very first production at Glenallachie in February 1968.  Each bottle was hand-selected by the highly acclaimed Master Distiller called Billy Walker, formerly of Glendronach and Benriach. These were the first batch of single malts from Glenallachie to be bottled under the ownership of Billu Walker after he took over ownership of the distillery in 2018 from Chivas. All of these bottles are natural cask-strength, natural colour, and non-chill filtered. Included in this lot are the following bottles-
    • Glenallachie 39 Years Old 1978 - Single Cask.10296 - Bottle No.14/120 (50cl 55.9%)
    • Glenallachie 28 Years Old 1989 - Single Cask 986 - Bottle No. 30/152 (50cl 57.7%)
    • Glenallachie 28 Years Old 1989 - Single Cask 2587 - Bottle No.26/80 (50cl 45.4%)
    • Glenallachie 27 Years Old 1990 - Single Cask 2517 - Bottle No.118/144 (50cl 54.6%)
    • Glenallachie 27 Years Old 1990 - Single Cask 2515 - Bottle No 151/156 (50cl 44.9%)
    • Glenallachie 26 Years Old 1991 - Single Cask 100285 - Bottle No 10/68 (50cl 55%)

Of all the distilleries Billy Walker could have purchased in 2017, he picked this unassuming Speyside producer established in 1967 from Pernod Ricard. The deal included the maturing stock, which was destined for the Chivas blends, but now instead, has been given a single malt spotlight by Billy’s team using the same finishing approaches that worked well at Benriach and GlenDronach. The move that has been successful so far, gives us an appreciation of the consistency of Scotch whisky production across the country. Now we know the single malt from this distillery with a variety of age statements, cask strengths and finishes being released worldwide. The true Glenallachie whisky of interest will arrive once the whisky distilled during the new owner’s regime is released. For this, they have maximised fermentation and brought a variety of new methods into the distillery. Prior to Billy’s arrival, the distillery had minor visibility, with just a single official bottling, which makes his choice even more interesting and one we can judge later this decade.
