    Glen Ord

Founded way back in 1838 by Thomas Mackenzie as Glen Oran, the Ross-shire region of Scotland was a historically important one for distilling. An abundance of barley, peat, water and places to hide from excisemen, meant that distilling prospered. Glen Ord was widely appreciated by blenders, prompting Dewar & Sons to purchase it in 1923 and change the name to what we know today. Eventually, the distillery made its way into the hands of a forerunner of Diageo and was a component of many of its blends, which continues to this day. However, the distillery has since 2011 been the subject of extensive expansion, along with being the main maltings in the area for Diageo. Today, Glen Ord can produce 11 million litres thanks to its 14 stills and 22 washbacks. Such an increase allows an increased focus on its single malt with the Singleton range shipping a variety of editions worldwide. While Glen Ord is not a household name, it is a vital component in the Diageo stable.
