Girvan 33 Years Old
Cadenhead's Original Collection
Girvan is the workhorse of the William Grant & Sons stable and famously built in a matter of months. The incentive was to ensure a consistency of supply when relationships with companies that owned grain producers were allegedly turning sour. Acting quickly and with encouragement from the local council, a huge site was acquired and a distillery came online 9 months later. The site hasn’t just been all-grain, as it has played host to the short-lived malt distillery of Ladyburn, which only lasted a decade. The single malt presence was revived in another century with the construction of Ailsa Bay to assist growing demand and pressure for blending stock as the William Grant & Son brands enjoyed continued success. In 1995 the original Girvan stills were replaced by a multiple-column setup and in 2013 they launched the Girvan Patent Still range. An attempt to make grain whisky more available and appreciated, it was hampered by an inflated price point.
