We've compiled a list of codes to make it easy to find out what whisky is inside each bottle from the Scotch Malt Whisky Society. The first digits relate to the distillery, and the numbers after the dot (.) relate to the number of the release, from that distillery. Sometimes you'll see a letter preceding both -that relates to the type of liquid in the bottle, for example a "G" means it's a Grain whisky.

This Dalwhinnie Winter's Frost range is from a set of eight Limited Edition bottlings from Diageo which pays tribute to HBO's iconic TV Series, Games of Thrones.

The Stark Clan is known for its resiliency, strength, and ability to thrive under the most intense situations that are greatly shaped by Winterfell's frigid temperatures. Like House Stark, Dalwhinnie is made in one of the highest and coldest distilleries in Scotland, and its extreme conditions are responsible for shaping its signature honeyed sweetness and spicy warmth. Naturally, it's best served chilled or over ice.

If you take the A9 road through Scotland, eventually you will reach the heights of Dalwhinnie and its perfectly perched distillery. The name itself is Gaelic for ‘meeting place’ and historically would be a vital cog in trade flowing south and north. Founded in 1897 by a trio of owners, their new distillery is called Strathspey, before financial troubles prompt a change in ownership and the name that we know it by, today.
A visitor centre opened in 1991 and it remains a popular stopping off point with a well-stocked distillery shop. The buildings themselves are worth touring as the distillery is relatively unscathed apart from a fire in 1934 and worm tubs remain in use. Dalwhinnie also enjoys a very visible single malt presence thanks to its role in the Classic Malts series since 1987. Various special editions have been released since, but the main staple remains the 15 year old.

This Clynelish single malt is from a set of eight Limited Edition bottlings from Diageo which pays tribute to HBO's iconic TV Series, Games of Thrones.
House of Tyrell of Highgarden rules over the Reach, the lush and fertile region of Westeros whose abundance feeds the realm. The Tyrell golden rose is beautiful but hides razor-sharp thorns beneath the surface. They have lived up to their house words of Growing Strong, defending their position of power with weapons of sharp words, sharp minds, and sharp actions. 

Like the Reach, Clynelish is positioned among green pastures and rolling hills, with scenic views of the North Sea. The fruity, waxy and sea-spicy flavours of this single malt are said to come from the water of Clynemilton burn, which runs over seams of gold in the rock. And while this vibrant, golden Scotch is light and floral, like House Tyrell, it's not to be underestimated with its underlying complex combination of Highland and maritime qualities.

One of the most stylish distilleries within the Diageo portfolio, Clynelish has long enjoyed favouritism amongst whisky enthusiasts. Its 14 year old expression is rightfully regarded as a classic with its distinctive waxy undertones. In recent times, Diageo has realised the potential of the distillery and upgraded the visitor centre in 2021 along with its first refurbishment and upgrade in 2017.
For too long, it has lived within the shadow of its illustrious neighbour, Brora, which has returned to production in 2021. Established in 1967, it has consistently supplied the Johnnie Walker brand, whilst enjoying the occasional special release. Recently, the distillery has added an exclusive release and the option to bottle your own. Underlining the fact that at last, we’ll be seeing much more of the whisky itself.

Lagavulin single Islay malt has been aged for 9 years and is from a set of eight Limited Edition bottlings from Diageo which pays tribute to HBO's iconic TV Series, Games of Thrones.

The Lagavulin pays tribute to The House Of Lannister, one of the richest and oldest dynasties in the Seven Kingdoms who stop at nothing to retain its power, influence, and hold on to the Iron Throne. Their voracious intent is befittingly represented by a clawing lion on the house's banner. If you cross them you will indeed hear their thunderous and violent roar, which has left many houses in ruin, after all, a Lannister always pays his debts.

An Islay giant, Lagavulin was established in 1816 by John Johnston and its early years were steady, without some of the drama seen by other distilleries. When the Mackie family took over in 1867, Lagavulin grew in reputation and respect. When the White Horse blend was launched in 1890, Lagavulin formed a major part of its recipe and is forever associated with the iconic whisky.
The move to a more corporate ownership began in 1927 with the Distillers Company Limited, leading to Diageo today. In an era of famous Islay names, arguably Lagavulin is only second to Bowmore and its value to Diageo is considerable. The current owners have slowly expanded the core range beyond the staple 16 year old and festival releases. Now, we have a variety of age statements and special editions. It’s no surprise that the distillery is working 7 days a week and producing as much whisky as it can to meet growing demand with the bulk of production shipped to the mainland for maturation, due to the limited warehousing on Islay.

Talisker single Islay malt is from a set of eight Limited Edition bottlings from Diageo which pays tribute to HBO's iconic TV Series, Games of Thrones.
House Greyjoy rules the Iron Islands and worships the Drowned God. The Ironborn makes their home on bleak and blustery islands off the west coast of Westeros whose unforgiving, desolate location shapes their lives. Unable to subsist solely on rocky land, these reavers take to the sea to make their fortune amidst salt and smoke. They acquire their riches not with gold, but by paying the Iron Price.

Situated on the Isle of Skye, Talisker was established in 1830 although illicit distilling was commonplace in this remote location. For many years it was the only distillery on the island, but this has changed in recent times. It remains a classic example of an island whisky and has a staunch fanbase in spite of some variable releases in recent times.

As one of the Classic Malts from Diageo, its single malt presence is sizeable and with a recent rebrand and considerable investment in the site as a tourist attraction, we can expect even more Talisker. Featuring a strong maritime influence combined with peat, the distillery still uses worm tubs that are cooled by seawater. The site was the location of Scotland’s last great distillery fire in 1960, when a valve on the spirit still was not closed properly, prompting a massive rebuild that took 2 years.

House Targaryen, the only house in possession of fire breathing dragons, has proven its resilient nature throughout history. Through fierce determination and force of will, Daenerys Targaryen walked through fire and emerged at the head of the greatest army the known world has ever seen. Under the black and red banner of House Targaryen, she marches toward the Iron Throne and her rivals bend the knee to swear their allegiance to the Mother of Dragons.

Legally established in 1824 by John Cumming, as Cardow distillery, it’s been long suspected that distilling was carried out on this site since the early 1800s. The distillery was rebuilt in 1884, before the blending company of John Walker & Sons from Kilmarnock took an interest in the 1890s, as they went about acquiring stakes in various distilleries. In 1893, they purchased the distillery and Cardhu has been forever associated with the striding man.
The distillery itself has grown in tandem with the Johnnie Walker brand and changed its name to Cardhu in 1981 with a visitor centre also constructed just prior to the millennium. Most famously, in 2002, it launches a vatted single malt which comprises of malts from other Diageo distilleries. This isn’t well-received in some parts of the industry, in particular by rival competitor William Grant & Sons. Diageo eventually cancels the range in 2004 and since has focused on building the Cardhu single malt range, which enjoys staunch international support in countries such as Spain.

This Singleton single malt is from a set of eight Limited Edition bottlings from Diageo which pays tribute to HBO's iconic TV Series, Games of Thrones.

Situated on the banks of the River FIddich in the wooded hills of Dufftown, Glendullan originally relied on the waters that surrounded it. Harnessing the force of the waters that flowed through the land, it utilised a water wheel to power the entire distillery. Best served with a splash of water, this Scotch has notes of green apple, honey, and sweet vanilla and finishes dry and clean.

Located on the outskirts of Dufftown, Glendullan is today owned by Diageo and produces for its blends and also the Singleton range. The distillery itself began life in 1897, however, the main date of interest is 1972 when a new distillery was constructed alongside the original. This was originally called Glendullan ‘B’ and it ran alongside the original distillery (which still stands) until 1985 when the older plan was mothballed and eventually closed for good.

The distillery isn’t open to visitors but you are able to walk by and around the original distillery, which does have a charming old style. Glendullan doesn’t have a huge following in the single malt market, the Singleton range is trying to change that with a variety of age statements including some well-aged single cask releases. It’s a very approachable style of whisky, easy-drinking without demanding too much of the drinker. Diageo seems intent on raising its profile in the coming years.

This lot is a dark moody bottling to represent The Night's Watch, brought to you by Oban Distillery in a matching tube with the Night watch vows printed on the bottle and the tube.

Today’s distilleries are often located outside of towns, in Oban’s case, it was an early entry in the coastal town, which grew up around it. Dating back to 1794, the distillery is one of the oldest in Scotland. It faces the harbour and back into a hillside. Other distilleries have come and gone, land being sold to developers, but Oban, thankfully, remains.
A multitude of owners departed before DCL arrived on the scene, which was a forerunner of Diageo. The site received much-needed investment in 1968 and this took 4 years to complete, before supporting blends. The classic 14 year old single malt debuted in 1988 and in recent times a variety of special editions and distillery exclusives have appeared. Any whisky from Oban is scarce and production at the site is one of Diageo’s smallest with only 6 mashes per week.

This is the final installment of the limited edition bottlings from Diageo which pays tribute to HBO's iconic TV series, Game Of Thrones.

The three-eyed raven, a human who once lived among the Children of the Forest beyond the Wall, has the power to see beyond the constraints of time to uncover the past and present stories of Westeros and even reveal flashes of the future. As those stories unfold to impart wisdom and knowledge, they are intertwined and woven into the tapestry of the Six Kingdoms, all while beyond the horizon and above the clouds, the three-eyed raven watches with a thousand eyes, and one.
Mortlach, Dufftown's first legal distillery has equally been influenced by the people in its history. George and Alexander Cowie were integral influences for both the distillery and surrounding community, with George holding the esteemed title of Provost and Alexander developing Mortlach's signature method to distill the liquid exactly 2.81 times-a complex process as unique as the three-eyed rave itself. Evocative of the past and crafted for the future, this fifteen-year-old Single Malt Scotch Whisky has been finished in ex-bourbon casks, imparting a bold, smooth taste with notes of vanilla and spice befitting of those with a noble palate.

Fondly referred to as the Beast of Dufftown, Mortlach dates back to 1823 when it was founded by James Findlater. Like so many other owners of the period, he didn’t last too long and a variety of new owners came and went. The distillery was held back by periods of inaction and for a period in the 1850s was a brewery and a church. It was the arrival of the Cowie family that guided Mortlach into what we know it today, John Walker & Sons snapped it up in the 1920s before they were acquired by DCL. And it has remained with Diageo since.
The distillery is mostly known for its work with sherry casks and huge potential to be matured excessively with its savoury characteristics. Like Springbank, its complex distillation is unique and is part of its legacy. An assortment of stills and processes mean it is distilled 2.81 times. For much of its life, outside of support from Gordon & MacPhail, the distillery had a cult-like status. Diageo has tried in recent years to raise its single malt profile with various launches to mixed success.
