A Rare Vintage bottling of Fettercairn 40 years old single Highland malt Scotch whisky. Distilled on the 18th March 1969 and left to mature in the finest sherry butts from the noble Sherry House of Gronzalez Byass in Spain for 40 long years. Limited to only 463 bottles, these bottles are also individually signed. Fettercairn is one of the oldest licensed distilleries in Scotland. The name Fettercairn means 'Foot of the Mountain' and on visiting the town you can understand why they named the town. In 1861 Queen Victoria and Price Alfred stopped at Fettercairn en route to their Scottish palace at Balmoral. It was said they wandered the streets un-recognised enjoying the picturesque village known as the jewel of the Mearns. A commemorative arch was later constructed to mark the occasion and it is this arch you can see on the Fettercairn bottles. Each bottle is signed by the distillery manager David Doig.

    Fettercairn

Fettercairn can trace its roots back to 1824 and its foundation by Sir Alexander Ramsay. As the owner, he didn’t last too long and this became a common theme for the distillery during its lifespan; owners arrived and departed, punctuated by periods of closure. Such trends prevented Fettercairn from establishing its own identity. Since 1971, by our reckoning, the distillery has endured at least 9 different owners. In recent times, the former parent group of Whyte & Mackay was bought and sold in a game of distillery musical chairs. Arguably, because of the attraction of the Dalmore distillery, others within the group tagged along. There have been various attempts to establish a single malt presence for Fettercairn with the latest range being launched in 2018, assisted by the re-racking of maturating stock. Whether this latest attempt gains momentum remains to be seen, but the initial signs are favourable.
