Caledonian 30 Years Old 1987
Cadenhead's Warehouse Tasting
Pen mark to label.
A distillery that still offers a large presence in the Haymarket area of Edinburgh, thanks to its converted buildings and 300-foot chimney. Caledonian was at one time the largest distillery in Scotland and was founded in 1855. Its location was excellent for the nearby Haymarket railway station and Forth & Clyde Canal. In 1884 the distillery joined DCL and remained with the firm through its various name changes until 1988 when it was deemed surplus to requirements and closed. The huge site was snapped up by developers for residential accommodation. For the majority of its lifespan, Caledonian produced grain whisky that was well-respected and utilised by blenders. Some of these well-aged grains are still being bottled today and continue the legacy of this huge producer.
