    Blair Athol

Set on the outskirts of Pitlochry, Blair Athol is one of Diageo’s most popular visitor attractions. A distillery with a relatively minor single malt presence, Blair Athol owes its popularity for being a major component of the Bell’s blended scotch and was purchased by the Bell’s family in 1933. Founded in 1798, the distillery is very picturesque and relatively unscathed by modern enhancements. The number of stills was doubled to 4 in 1973 and this remains the biggest change in modern times and quite a squeeze if you visit the still room. By Diageo standards, the distillery is a minor producer with almost all of its production going into blends. Thankfully, some distillery exclusives have been released alongside single casks from independents, which showcase its honeyed, malty character.
