Blair Athol 14 Years Old 2006

Adelphi RAF Benevolent Fund
Lot #0890716
FINISH DATE
30 April 2021
Distilled at Blair Athol distillery and filled into an active ex-Oloroso Sherry hogshead (No.2651) on the 2nd August 2006, then selected and bottled by Adelphi Distillery on the 24th August 2020 for the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fun's commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the Battle of Britain. A rich mahogany colour with initial notes of the roasting tin, leather, and cigar box. These are followed by cooked fruits in syrup, along with fresh orchard fruits and geraniums in a greenhouse. A thick mouthfeel leads to herb-encrusted roast meats, cola cubes, and pink grapefruit. Becoming more mentholated on the long finish, with a well-balanced sweetness and salinity.
Blair Athol

Set on the outskirts of Pitlochry, Blair Athol is one of Diageo’s most popular visitor attractions. A distillery with a relatively minor single malt presence, Blair Athol owes its popularity for being a major component of the Bell’s blended scotch and was purchased by the Bell’s family in 1933. Founded in 1798, the distillery is very picturesque and relatively unscathed by modern enhancements. The number of stills was doubled to 4 in 1973 and this remains the biggest change in modern times and quite a squeeze if you visit the still room. By Diageo standards, the distillery is a minor producer with almost all of its production going into blends. Thankfully, some distillery exclusives have been released alongside single casks from independents, which showcase its honeyed, malty character.
