Distilled on November 30th, 1982 and bottled in October 2022, this remarkable 40-year-old single cask Benromach forms part of Gordon & MacPhail’s prestigious Private Collection — a curated selection of rare and aged whiskies. Matured in a 1st Fill Burgundy Cask (No. 3024413) and bottled at natural cask strength (59.9% ABV), this limited release is one of just 207 bottles available worldwide.

    Benromach

Located in Forres, Benromach was established in 1898 and for a short period in the 1900s was actually known as the Forres distillery. What followed thereafter until 1983 was a repetitive pattern of new owners and long periods of closure. Throughout this time, Benromach resisted any modernisation and expansion, but in doing so was deemed expendable, as DCL closed the doors for good in 1983. And that was likely it, until 3 years later when independent bottling giant, Gordon & MacPhail, decided to move into becoming distillery owners. Benromach was the perfect candidate being nearby their base in Elgin and offering a clean slate. The whisky from Benromach has always been good, with special single cask releases from the 1970s underlining the quality. Gordon & MacPhail brought their version of Benromach back to life in 1998 and the distillery has gone from strength to strength.
